As expected, 2015 was a good year for the Real Estate Industry. It has become a records year in foreign and national investments.

The data revealed by BNP Paribas Real Estate suggests that investment in the Spanish housing market reached 11,700 million euros. This figure is not only almost 70% higher than in 2014, but it’s 25% higher than that recorded in the years before the outbreak of the crisis. That is, the peak moments of the sector. According to Europa Press, it has also grown strongly the number of transactions: in 2015, 271 transactions were recorded, compared with 169 a year earlier.

Geographically, Madrid and Catalonia were the most prominent regions, capturing 6,000 and 2,000 million euros of the  investment, respectively. As for the origin of the investments, foreigners have played a key role. Either by direct purchase or participation through investment vehicles as SOCIMIs, they have been involved with France, United States and United Kingdom. Also to be highlighted are the investments from China, the Philippines, the Middle East or Latin America.
